Getting back to dancing again, what you may want to consider

13/05/2021

It's an image we've ceratinly missed in the past 12 or more months, but one we're gearing up to welcome back soon.

The last 12+ months has been a barren social dancing scene to say the least, and for obvious reasons. Optimism however is now in sight on the horizon. The combination of over half the UK population having received at least their first vaccine dose, and the government’s roadmap out of restrictions has us salivating to hit the dance floors again soon.

Getting back into the swing of things as they were before however will clearly take some time, with the impact from the pandemic to effect the way we think, perceive, and perform moving forward.

So, with the bright light of social dancing shinning at the end of the tunnel, we thought we’d share a few tips for those of you ready to (or maybe not quite ready to) get back on a dance floor with each other soon. Hopefully providing some confidence, or a point you may not have thought much about.

  1. It's ok if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask. - the thought of dancing with a mask deters many and we say fair enough. Each to their own. Nevertheless, this goes both ways and if you feel more at ease dancing with one, then go for it. There is no reason after what the whole world has gone through for you to feel awkward in choosing to wear a mask on the dance floor.
  2. It's ok to say NO to a dance if you feel uncomfortable socialising completely. - pace yourself and if it doesn’t feel right for you, just say no. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to get dances in and you will feel comfortable changing many partners with time again.
  3. It's ok if you feel you would like to just dance with one other person. - to carry on from point 2, if you feel more comfortable to only dance with your other half, friend or a pre arranged ‘bubble’, then that is fine. You should not feel embarrassed to express this to others asking for a dance and in turn, do not get offended when someone turns you down. Remember, everyone will have a different level of worry or concern which we can all accommodate for.
  4. Wash your hands well with soap and water for 20+ seconds - need a timer? Sing or hum your favourite pop hit chorus. Our favourite would have to be the Bee Gees - Stayin’ Alive, cos ‘whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother, you’re stayin alive, staying alive…’ Here’s a link with some more ideas for you and remember…There is no rule against dancing while washing your hands.
  5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth with unwashed hands. - while practicing respiratory hygiene. Don’t forget to cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue if you need to cough or sneeze.
  6. Regularly use the hand sanitiser provided. - which will most likely be provided in abundance by the event organiser. If not, it should be!
  7. Think about your personal hygiene - stay fresh. - Perhaps a change of clothes or just pacing yourself through the course of the evening. You know what is right for you. Take a moment to think about the evening in advance and prepare accordingly.
  8. Keep up to date on the event information. - we’re sure that the first few events back will have plenty of information available on what they are doing to keep the event as safe as possible for everyone involved. Of course this can only be as successful as everyones participation. So do the right thing and follow any instructions asked. At the end of the day, it is for the safety of everyone. Yourself included.
  9. Last but not least, it’s been awhile so enjoy, have fun and take it at your own pace.

We hope to see you all on a dance floor together soon for what promises to be an amazing catch up!
