Step into the world of line dancing!

Originating from folk traditions in the form of square dancing, line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or rows, all facing the same direction and executing the steps at the same time.

Originally associated with country and western music, line dance evolved to the 70s dance floor to disco songs (think of the Hustle). In the 80s we had Billy Ray Cyrus with ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ and the 90s brought the ‘Macarena’ to many holiday dance floors! It can be modern, and funky, incorporate waltz and cha cha steps, and much more!

Modern or ‘Urban’ line dancing encompasses many different musical styles, including pop, rock, and Latin and is a great way to socialise, exercise, and express yourself through dance. It is suitable for all ages and abilities, and no partner is required, making it an inclusive and enjoyable activity for all. You’ve probably dabbled in the ‘Cha Cha slide’ or ‘Cupid Shuffle’ at a party or wedding, right??…. yep, that’s line dancing!

Over the last few years, line dancing has soared in popularity due to social media trends. Beyonce’s country smash hit ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ had people over the world creating their own moves to line dance to and most recently the artist Dasha released her song ‘Austin’ along with her personally choreographed line dance to accompany, which has become a major TikTok trend!
